The Avon Community Heritage Festival has announced yet another first in its ongoing quest for excellence in local pre-festival activities.

All Avon High School alumni from the 1980’s and 1990’s are invited to participate in a Flag Football 7 vs. 7 on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 pm at the AHS Varsity Stadium.   A Powder Puff game is also being organized for the same date and location. The 1980’s players will play those from the 1990’s.

The 80’s groups will be coached by former Varsity Coach Larry Weatherald and the 90’s participants will be coached by former Varsity Coach Jim Kaiser.

Participants should sign up by September 18, 2008 by calling Avon Chamber Board President Don Hodson at 317-370-3236 or by e-mail at dhodson1@sbcglobal.net or call the Avon Chamber office and speak directly to Beverly Austin at 317-272-4333.

According to Don Hodson, President of the Avon Community Heritage Festival Board, “These events are being staged as part of celebration activities leading up to the 10th Anniversary of the Festival on September 26th and 27th.  This may be your time to win one for the valley!”   He added that board member Doug Elmore and Keith Ward would both be assisting in the organization of this special event.

Participants need not to have played football.  All former athletes, cheerleaders, students, band members, managers are welcomed. 

The 10th Annual Avon Community Heritage Festival will be held Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27, 2008.

The Chase Bank Grand Opening Day is on September 6th.  They open at 9:00 am.  There will be a bouncy house and a caricaturist for the kids and an appearance from the Pacers and Pacemates.  Food will be served for everyone who attends.  There are $100 coupon offers for everyone who opens an account with direct deposit.

One of the largest Eastern European Slovene Celebrations in North America will take place on August 28, 29 & 30th in Indianapolis in Avon, Indiana. The 90th Anniversary Party of the Slovenian Home, located at 2717 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana begins at 5:00 p.m. on August 29th with a Slovenian Dinner and Silent Auction. The Polka Jam will begin at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the KSKJ Slovene Organization will sponsor the Slovenefest Golf Tournament to be held at South Grove Golf Course. The 8th Annual Slovenefest begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 31st at the SNH Picnic Grounds located one mile west of Raceway Road on West 10th Street and Yates Lane (just west of Clarian West Hospital). Gates open at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 12:00 noon and world recording artist, Bob Doszak followed by the band Polka Motion. Events include a marshmallow roast, sack race, hayride, balinca, corn toss and horseshoes. Menu includes Slovenian sausage and hamburgers, blood sausage, potica and krafa, Slovenian wine and beer.
